新潟大学のグローバルヘルスプログラムをさらに進めていくために、新潟大学の助成を受けて、主導する大学の1つMcMaster大学（カナダ）で、8月末から6週間の予定で研修が始まりました。

10大学で協働するプログラムの運営、教育、その他必要な活動を実際に見て、関わる方々のご協力で個別でまたはグループで直接お話をお聞きし、運営の進捗状況を確認するミーティングへのオブザーバー参加などをさせていただきます。

追って、内容もご報告していきたいと思います。

初日は、グローバルヘルスプログラムの教育運営を担うProgram Director, Dr. Deborah DiLibertoからオリエンテーションを受け（写真）、キャンパス内で初めてのランチをご一緒しました。

翌週は、9月が新入学時期なので、寮に学生が戻り、キャンパスにも人が増え、にぎやかになりました。

まず上級生が、学部毎に色の異なるパンツをはいて迎えるそうで、そのズボンが色鮮やかな赤や青であること、それにそれぞれの学生が個性を発揮して絵やマークなどを描き、とても華やかな新入生歓迎の雰囲気でした。先輩方は「何でも聞いて Ask us anything!」と新入生をあたたかく迎えていました。

レンタルサイクルや保険などの説明をするブースには入学前の新入生とご家族が熱心に話を聞いていたり、各クラブ・サークルのイベントのポスターには「コーヒーやクッキーがあるよ！」だったりと、魅力たっぷりのイベントが行われていました。

研修での様子は、追って、報告をあげていこうと思います。

I am spending time at McMaster University to learn about the educational activities and programme operations that support collaboration among ten universities. During my stay, I will meet with colleagues involved in the programme to exchange ideas about its development and management.

My visit began with an orientation session led by Dr Deborah DiLiberto, Programme Director of the Global Health Programme (see photo), followed by my first lunch on campus.

The following week, the campus came alive as students returned for the new academic year. Senior students welcomed newcomers by wearing colourful pants representing their faculties, decorated with their own drawings and symbols. The vibrant colours created a festive atmosphere across campus. “Ask us anything!” was the message at booths offering information on bike hire, insurance, and other aspects of campus life. Students and their families listened attentively, while posters advertising clubs and societies added to the lively atmosphere—including one inviting students with the simple message, “We’ve got coffee and biscuits!” It was a memorable introduction to the energy of a new academic year at McMaster.
